Canadian Freddie Freeman made Major League Baseball history on Monday. He has now hit a home run in five consecutive World Series games, and is tied with current Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer, who accomplished the feat as a member of the Houston Astros. In game three of the World Series, in a 4-2 Dodgers win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, Freeman opened the scoring with a 355 foot blast. He also had a home run in the Atlanta Braves’s last two games against the Astros in the 2021 World Series, and now the first three games of the 2024 World Series, all Dodgers wins.
Freeman is also one of three players ever to hit a home run in the first three games of the World Series. The other two are Hank Bauer of the New York Yankees (1958 against the Milwaukee Braves), and Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants (2002 against the Los Angeles Angels). Even though Bonds made history, it was not enough as the Giants lost the series in seven games.
The Dodgers can win the 2024 World Series on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. In three games so far, Freeman is batting .333 with four hits in 12 at bats. Freeman’s other hit was also an extra base hit, as it was a triple in game one.
