Four non-Canadians on Canadian teams named NHL first star of the week in 2021-22

Six weeks into the 2021-22 National Hockey League regular season, and there still has not been a Canadian named as the NHL First Star of the Week. However, there have been four non-Canadians on Canadian teams to receive the honour. On Monday, Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames was named the NHL first star of the week from November 15-21. The native of Salem, New Jersey had four goals and three assists for seven points in four games.

The other three non-Canadians on Canadian teams to be honoured have been Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom, Winnipeg Jets left winger Kyle Connor, and Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl. Connor of Shelby Township, Michigan, was honoured for the week from October 18-24. In three games, he had five goals and three assists for eight points.

Markstrom of Gavle, Sweden was honoured for the week from October 25-31. In three games, he had spectacular statistics. Markstrom posted a record of three wins and zero losses, a goals against average of 0.33, and a save percentage of .989. In two of the wins, Markstrom recorded shutouts. He blanked the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 on October 28, and then the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 on October 30. Draisaitl of Cologne, Germany was honoured for the week from November 1-7 after notching five goals and five assists for 10 points in three games.
