
Felix Auger-Aliassime is entering the 2025 Australian Open with significant momentum. On Saturday, Auger-Aliassime defeated American Sebastian Korda of the United States, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the final of the Adelaide International for his sixth career title.
Auger-Aliassime, the fifth seed, had 10 aces, compared to seven for Korda, the second seed. Auger-Aliassime also broke Korda three times in 10 chances. Korda broke Auger-Aliassime once in five chances. This was Auger-Aliassime’s third career win over Korda. Auger-Aliassime won 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of Mexico in 2021, and 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the European Open in Antwerp in 2022. Korda has beaten Auger-Aliassime once. That was in the quarterfinals of Estoril in 2022.
In the semifinal, Auger-Aliassime also delivered an upset as he beat the top seed, American Tommy Paul, the 2023 Australian Open semifinalist, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. Auger-Aliassime is also a grand slam semifinalist as he made the final four of the 2021 United States Open. In the semifinal, Auger-Aliassime had eight aces compared to seven for Paul. Auger-Aliassime won their only prior meeting. That came in the fourth round of Indian Wells in which Auger-Aliassime won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Auger-Aliassime had a first round bye in Adelaide. He then beat Arthur Cazaux of France, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round, and then Marcos Giron of the United States 7-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Auger-Aliassime’s first ATP title came in Rotterdam in 2022 where he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, 6-4. 6-2. Auger-Aliassime then beat J.J. Wolf of the United States in the final of the 2022 Florence Open (6-4, 6-4), Korda in Belgium, Holger Rune of Denmark in the 2022 Swiss Indoors final (6-3, 7-5), and then Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the 2023 Swiss Indoor Finals (7-6, 7-6).
