Dustin Tokarski collects third career NHL shutout

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Dustin Tokaski of Humboldt, Saskatchewan recorded his third career National Hockey League shutout on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 2-0 Hurricanes win over the Vancouver Canucks at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tokarski made 14 saves for the shutout. He made five saves in the first period, four saves in the second period, and five saves in the third period. J.T. Miller, who has become one of the most popular players in the Vancouver Canucks organization among Vancouverites, led the Canucks with three shots on goal.

Offensively, it was a strong game for Hurricanes captain and centre Jordan Staal of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Staal scored the game-winning goal for the Hurricanes at 14:41 of the first period from Dmitry Orlov to put the Hurricanes up 1-0, and then picked up the lone assist for the Hurricanes insurance goal by Andrei Svechnikov at 1:37 of the second period.

Tokarski has a record of four wins and one loss in 2024-25. He has one shutout with a goals against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .907.

Tokarski’s first NHL shutout came on March 16, 2014 in a 2-0 Montreal Canadiens win over the Buffalo Sabres. Tokarski’s second NHL shutout came on March 18, 2022 in a 1-0 Sabres win over the Calgary Flames.

With the win, the Hurricanes improved to a record of 26 wins, 15 regulation losses and two losses in extra time for 54 points. They are in third place in the Metropolitan Division.
