Erik Bedard to be inducted into Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame

According to Blue Jays Nation on Wednesday, former Canadian Major League Baseball pitcher Erik Bedard of Ottawa, Ontario will be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Mary’s, Ontario in 2025. Bedard pitched 11 seasons of Major League Baseball from 2002 to 2014 with the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays.

Bedard had a record of 71 wins and 82 losses with an earned run average of 3.99. During 1303 2/3 innings pitched and 241 games, he gave up 1242 hits, 578 earned runs, 131 home runs and 533 walks. Bedard also had 1246 strikeouts, one complete game, one shutout, one save,  and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). Bedard’s complete game shutout came on July 7, 2007 in a 3-0 Orioles win over the Texas Rangers. Bedard’s save came on March 31, 2013 in an 8-2 Houston Astros win over the Rangers.

In 2007, Bedard led the Major Leagues with 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings as he had 221 strikeouts in 182 innings pitched. That season he set the Orioles franchise record for the largest strikeout per nine inning ratio, and led Major League Baseball that season.

Others inducted into the Hall of Fame include former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista, Baseball Canada Men’s National Team Director and Head Coach Greg Hamilton of Toronto, Ontario, women’s baseball players Amanda Asay of Prince George, British Columbia and Arleene Johnson Noga of Ogema, Saskatchewan, and Montreal city councillor Gerry Snyder. Asay won four medals for Canada at the Women’s Baseball World Cup.
