In a blockbuster National Hockey League trade on Monday, the New Jersey Devils traded left winger Taylor Hall of Calgary, Alberta to the Arizona Coyotes. Hall was traded alongside prospect Blake Speers of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario for prospects Nate Schnarr of Waterloo, Ontario, Nick Merkley of Calgary, Alberta and Kevin Bahl of Mississauga, Ontario, and two conditional draft picks. Interestingly, all five players involved in the trade are Canadian.

What draft picks the Devils get from the Coyotes are based on numerous factors. If Arizona has among the top three picks in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, then a first round pick in 2020 that is part of the deal, will be transferred to 2021. That is unlikely at the moment, as Arizona is tied for first place in the Pacific Division with the Edmonton Oilers at 42 points. Also a third round draft pick in 2021 will rise to a second round draft pick in 2021 if Hall re-signs with the Coyotes or if the Coyotes win a playoff series. The third round draft pick in 2021 will rise to a first round draft pick in 2021 if Hall re-signs with the Coyotes and if the Coyotes win a playoff series.

The Coyotes are Hall’s third NHL team, as he also played with the Edmonton Oilers. In 30 games with the Devils in 2019-20, Hall has six goals and 19 assists for 25 points, is a -11 with 20 penalty minutes, 12 power play points, 109 shots on goal, 13 faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 25 hits, 17 takeaways and 29 giveaways.
