
Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan recorded his 33rd National Hockey League career shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Los Angeles Kings win over the New Jersey Devils at crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Kuemper made 33 saves. He made 14 saves in the first period, six saves in the second period, and 13 saves in the third period. Jesper Bratt led the Devils with five shots on goal.
One Canadian scored for the Kings. Centre Quinton Byfield of Newmarket, Ontario scored his ninth goal of the season at 11:01 of the third period. Phillip Danault of Victoriaville, Quebec picked up a primary assist. Danault was one of two Canadians who recorded a primary assist for the Kings in the game. The other Canadian on the Kings to accomplish the feat was Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario.
Kuemper has simply been excellent this season with the Kings. He has a record of 10 wins, two regulation losses, and five losses in extra time with a goals against average of 2.29 and a save percentage of .914. It was also Kuemper’s second shutout of the season. The first came on November 4 in a 3-0 Kings win over the Nashville Predators.
Of Kuemper’s 33 shutouts, 10 have been with the Arizona Coyotes, seven have been with the Minnesota Wild, six have been with the Washington Capitals, and five each have been with the Kings and Colorado Avalanche. With the win, the Kings improve to a record of 22 wins, 10 regulation losses, and five losses in extra time for 47 points. They are in second place in the Pacific Division.
