Darcy Kuemper collects his 25th NHL career shutout

Darcy Kuemper of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan collected his fifth National Hockey League shutout of the season and 25th shutout of his career on Tuesday. He made 23 saves as the Avalanche defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-0 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Kuemper made eight saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Phillip Danault of Victoriaville, Quebec led the Kings with four shots on goal.

This was Kuemper’s second straight shutout as he also blanked the Calgary Flames 3-0 on Sunday. Kuemper’s other three shutouts this season came on January 15 in a 5-0 Avalanche win over the Arizona Coyotes, on February 13 in a 4-0 Avalanche win over the Dallas Stars, and on February 16 in a 2-0 Avalanche win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

So far in 2021-22, Kuemper has a record of 29 wins, eight regulation losses, and two losses in extra time. He also has a goals against average of 2.41 and a save percentage of .923.

The Avalanche have become an elite team in the NHL. They have a record of 43 wins, 13 regulation losses, and five losses in extra time for 91 points. Colorado’s 91 points are the most in the NHL, and three more points than the second place Florida Panthers.
