Christine de Bruin of Edmonton, Alberta and Kristen Bujnowski of London, Ontario won the bronze medal on Saturday in the women’s bobsled competition at the 2020 World Bobsleigh and Skeleton Championships in Altenberg, Germany. For de Bruin and Bujnowski, it was the second straight year they won a medal at the World Championships. In 2019, de Bruin and Bujnowski won the bronze medal in women’s bobsled at the World Bobsled Championships in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.
de Bruin and Bujnowski posted a four-run time of 3:46.55 in Altenberg. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Kaillie Humphries and Lauren Gibbs of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 3:45.49. Kim Kailicki and Kira Lipperheide of Germany won the silver medal with a time of 3:45.86. de Bruin and Bujnowski reached the podium by 0.14 seconds over fourth place finishers Mariama Jamanka and Annika Drazek of Germany, who had a time of 3:46.55.
de Bruin and Bujnowski had the fourth fastest time in the first run, the fifth fastest time in the second and fourth runs and the third fastest time in the third run. With Humphries changing allegiances from Canada to the United States, de Bruin and Bujnowski are expected to lead Team Canada in women’s bobsled through the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
