CFL quarterback star Mike Reilly retires at the age of 37

Mike Reilly, one of the top quarterbacks in the Canadian Football League over the last decade, retired at the age of 37 on Wednesday, a day before his 38th birthday, according to the Canadian Press. Reilly spent six seasons with the Edmonton Football Club from 2013 to 2018, and five seasons in two different stints with the British Columbia Lions (2010 to 2012, 2019, and 2021).

Reilly completed 2772 passes in his career in 4134 attempts during 168 regular season games. He had 34805 passing yards, 182 touchdown passes and 105 interceptions. When it came to running the ball, Reilly had 678 rushes for 3566 yards, and 56 touchdowns. Reilly also caught one pass for 15 yards while with Edmonton in 2013.

In 2015, Reilly guided Edmonton to a Grey Cup championship as he was named the Grey Cup most valuable player. He completed 21 of 35 pass attempts for 269 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2017, Reilly had his finest CFL season. While at the helm for Edmonton, he completed 447 passes in 654 attempts for 5830 yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Reilly also had 897 rushes for 390 yards and 12 touchdowns. He remarkably led the CFL in passing yards, touchdown passes, and rushing touchdowns, and was named the CFL’s most outstanding player, and was a CFL All-Star. Reilly also led the CFL with 5554 yards in 2016, 5562 yards in 2018, and 3283 yards in 2021.
