It was a spectacular foursome day for three Canadians on Friday as they helped the International Team generate two points at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Montreal, Quebec. At the Royal Montreal Golf Club, Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario teamed up with Adam Scott of Adelaide, Australia, the 2013 Masters champion, to beat Sahith Theegala and Colin Morikawa of the United States 5 & 4. Then Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario and Mackenzie Hughes of Hamilton, Ontario beat the American duo of Wyndham Clark and Tony Finau 6 & 5. As a result, the International Team and the United States are tied at five after two days of competition.
Pendrith, Scott, Conners and Hughes were simply dominant. In the process, they beat formidable opponents. Morikawa is the fourth ranked player in the world, and won the 2020 PGA Championship, and 2021 British Open. Clark is the sixth ranked player in the world, and 2023 United States Open champion. Theegala is 11th in the world, and Finau is 23rd in the world.
The Scott/Pendrith duo had five birdies and one bogey. They birdied the fourth, fifth, sixth, 10th and 12th holes. Scott and Pendrith bogeyed the seventh hole. Theegala and Morikawa did not have a single birdie.
Conners and Hughes had seven birdies. They birdied the second, sixth, eighth, ninth, 11th, 12th, and 13th holes. Even though the International Team went one-under-par on the 12th hole, they lost the hole as the Clark and Finau team recorded an eagle. Day three will have foursome and four ball sessions.
