Canada wins gold medal at 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship

Team Canada won the gold medal on Saturday at the 2019 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship from the Langley Events Centre in Langley, British Columbia. In the gold medal game, Canada beat the Iroquois Nationals 19-12. The Iroquois Nationals are members of the North American confederacy, and compete independently from Canada and the United States in international lacrosse.

In Canada’s seven goal win over the Iroquois, Calgary Roughnecks forward Dane Dobbie of Elora, Ontario led Canada with 10 points as he had three goals and seven assists. Dobbie also led Canada in assists. Meanwhile, Calgary Roughnecks forward Curtis Dickson of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia led Canada with five goals. In between the pipes, Mike Poulin of Kitchener, Ontario had stellar goaltending as the Kitchener, Ontario native made 42 saves.

Team Canada went through the tournament undefeated. In the premier blue division, they had a perfect record of four wins and zero losses. They beat the United States 16-6, England 18-5, Israel 17-5 and the Iroquois Nationals 19-12. Canada then beat England 21-4 in the semifinals before advancing to the final. In the other semifinal, the Iroquois Nationals beat the United States 9-7. The United States beat England 11-8 in the bronze medal game.

This was the fifth World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. In every championship, Canada has won the gold medal, the Iroquois Nationals have won the silver medal and the United States has won the bronze medal.
