Canada is one of six nations to qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Curling Championships in Sandviken, Sweden. They are joined by Switzerland, Norway, Japan, Italy and Sweden.

The Canadian team, skipped by Kerri Einarson of Selkirk, Manitoba, finished the round robin with a record of seven wins and five losses. That was good enough for third place after the round robin standings. Switzerland had the best record of 12 wins and zero losses, while Norway was in second place with eight wins and four losses. By being in the top two, Switzerland and Norway had a bye to the semifinals.

Canada meanwhile was in a four-way tie for third place with Italy, Sweden and Japan. Canada got the number three seed, as they had the best record of two wins and one loss in the games played among the tied teams.

Canada has been plagued by inconsistency throughout the week. They were unable to go a complete day without a loss since Monday. In their last seven games, Canada had a record of three wins and four losses. The Canadians qualified for the playoffs after South Korea beat the United States 10-6.

Canada’s opponent on Saturday will be Japan in one of two qualification games. The other qualification game has Sweden versus Italy.
