Four Canadians in sweet 16 of 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

March Madness continues on Thursday in the United States, and four Canadians are in the sweet 16. They are Alabama Crimson Tide center Charles Bediako of Brampton, Ontario, Creighton guard Ryan Nembhard of Aurora, Ontario, Princeton guard Xaivian Lee of Toronto, Ontario, and Texas guard Marcus Carr of Toronto.

Nembhard is averaging 12.4 points, 4.8 assists and four rebounds this season. He has a field goal percentage of .434, free throw percentage of .878 and a three-point percentage of .373. In the first two games of March Madness, Nembhard scored 40 points. He had 10 points in the first round, a 72-63 Creighton win over North Carolina State, and then 30 points in the second round, in an 85-76 win over Baylor. On Friday in Louisville, Kentucky, Creighton will face Lee and Princeton. Lee is averaging 4.9 points per game this season.

Carr is averaging 15.8 points per game, four assists per game, three rebounds per game, and 1.7 steals per game. He has a field goal percentage of .429, free throw percentage of .771 and a three-point percentage of .363. In the first two games of March Madness, Carr scored 27 points. He had 17 points in an 81-61 Texas win over Colgate in round one, and then 10 points in a 71-66 Texas win over Penn State in round two. Texas will face Xavier on Friday in Kansas City.

Bediako meanwhile had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-51 Alabama win over Maryland in round two. Alabama next faces San Diego State in Louisville on Friday.
