Team Canada has won its first four games of the World Men’s Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland. On Thursday, Canada defeated Kazakhstan 6-3 to remain undefeated.
The Canadian star in their win over Kazakhstan was Buffalo Sabres center Dylan Cozens of Whitehorse, Yukon. Cozens notched the hat-trick in the three-goal Canada win.
Cozens tied the game at one goal apiece after Kazakhstan went up 1-0 at 2:25 of the first period. Cozens’s goal came at 3:45 of the first period from New Jersey Devils defenseman Ryan Graves of Yartmouth, Nova Scotia and Vegas Golden Knights center Nicolas Roy of Amos, Quebec. Cozens’s second goal came at 11:58 of the third period on the power-play from Ottawa Senators right winger Drake Batherson of New Minas, Nova Scotia and New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson of Melville, Saskatchewan to put Canada up 5-3. Cozens then put Canada up 6-3 on another power-play goal to close out the scoring. Cozens’s hat trick goal came from Winnipeg Jets left winger Pierre-Luc Dubois of Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec and Severson at 19:11 of the third period.
Cozens was one of five Canadian players with a multi-point game. Severson had one goal and two assists for three points. Batherson had one goal and one assist for two points. Graves and Columbus Blue Jackets center Kent Johnson of Port Moody, British Columbia had two assists each. The other Canadian goal scorer was Winnipeg Jets center Adam Lowry of Calgary, Alberta.
