The Calgary Flames beat the Dallas Stars in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs with great team defense. On Wednesday night to begin the second round, it was the offense that excelled.

The Flames scored with ease, as they trounced the Edmonton Oilers 9-6. It was the second straight game they scored nine times against the Oilers, as they beat Edmonton 9-5 in their final regular season meeting on March 26.

Matt Tkachuk led the Flames attack with a hat trick. The line of Tkachuk-Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm combined for eight points, as Gaudreau had three assists and Lindholm had one goal and one assist for two points. Three other Flames had a multi-point game. Defenseman Rasmus Andersson had one goal and two assists for three points, Andrew Mangiapane of Bolton, Ontario had one goal and two assists for three points, and Blake Coleman had two goals. The other Flames goal scorer was Brett Ritchie of Orangeville, Ontario.

The Flames had a dream start. When Lindholm and Mangiapane both scored for the Flames in the first minute, Calgary scored twice in the first 51 seconds, and became the fastest team ever to go up 2-0 in a National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoff game.
