Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario has won the 2025 Montana’s Brier in Kelowna, British Columbia. On Sunday evening from Prospera Place in the heart of the Okanagan, Jacobs, who was skipping a team based in Calgary, Alberta defeated Manitoba’s Matt Dunstone 5-3.
The key end in the Brier final was the 10th end as Alberta scored three points with some brilliant shot making. On numerous occasions Jacobs’s team were able to get their rocks by their guards and place them exactly where they wanted them to be. In addition to Jacobs, the Brier champions were third Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant and lead Ben Hebert.
Another key shot was a miss by Dunstone in the ninth end. That is when Dunstone flashed on a takeout attempt and was forced to score only a single point rather than have a multiple score.
Jacobs’s team also won a dramatic semifinal game against Team Canada’s Brad Gushue. The Newfoundlander missed his final shot as he was unable to remove an Alberta rock out of the four foot, and lost 7-5.
Hebert, Kennedy and Jacobs are all Canadian Olympic gold medalists. Hebert and Kennedy won gold for Canada in men’s curling at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Jacobs won gold for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Jacobs will now represent Canada at the 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
