Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon named NHL First Star of the Week

Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia has been named the National Hockey League First Star of the Week for the period from March 3-9, 2025. In three games, he had four goals and five assists for nine points.

MacKinnon opened the week with two assists in a 4-1 Avalanche win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 4. That was followed by two goals and three assists for five points in a 7-3 Avalanche win over the San Jose Sharks on March 6, and two goals in a 7-4 Avalanche win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Also during the week, MacKinnon was a +5 with four power-play points, one game-winning goal, 13 shots on goal, one hit, three blocked shots, and 24 faceoff wins. The game-winning goal and hit were in the Avalanche win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday. MacKinnon scored from defenseman Devon Toews of Abbotsford, British Columbia and Martin Necas with four minutes and 15 seconds left in the third period to put Colorado up 5-4 at the time.

MacKinnon leads the NHL this season with 73 assists and 100 points. During 64 games, he has 23 goals, is a +24 with 31 penalty minutes, 33 power-play points, five game-winning goals, 260 shots on goal, 594 faceoff wins, 50 blocked shots, 32 hits, 21 takeaways, and 94 giveaways.
