Blue Jays sweep Royals in MLB action

The Toronto Blue Jays had a very productive weekend at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario over the weekend. Toronto had a three-game sweep over the Kansas City Royals as they won by scores of 5-4 on Friday, 5-1 on Saturday, and 5-2 on Sunday. As a result, the Blue Jays improved to a record of 80 wins and 63 losses, and have the second wildcard spot in the American League. They lead the Seattle Mariners, which have the third wildcard spot by one game, and the Texas Rangers by a game and a half for the final playoff spot. The Mariners are at 79 wins and 64 losses, and the Rangers are at 78 wins and 64 losses.

On Friday, Blue Jays rookie Davis Schneider had two doubles. Of his 27 hits so far in 2023, he now has 17 extra base hits (nine doubles, one triple, and seven home runs) in 73 at bats. On Saturday, the Blue Jays heroes were starting pitcher Kevin Gausman and outfielder George Springer. Gausman threw eight innings and only gave up one earned run. He had 10 strikeouts, and gave up two hits and one walk foe a great quality start. Springer meanwhile had two home runs. Then on Sunday, Jose Berrios also had a quality start, as he gave up two earned runs in seven innings, and gave up five hits and two walks, to go along with seven strikeouts. Starting Monday, the Blue Jays have a huge four game series against the Rangers.
