We now know the four teams left trying to win the 2024 Vanier Cup. In the Uteck Bowl, the Ontario champion Wilfrid Laurier University will play the Atlantic champion Bishop’s University at Coulter Field in Sherbrooke, Quebec, and in the Mitchell Bowl, the Canada West champion University of Regina Rams will play the Quebec champion Laval University Rouge et Or at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan.
In the Dunsmore Cup on Saturday, the Laval Rouge et Or beat the University of Montreal Carabins 22-17. Laval only lost once all season and that was to Montreal 32-31 in overtime on October 12. In Saturday’s game, the Rouge et Or were led by quarterback Arnaud Desjardins of Montreal, Quebec and Rouge et Or wide receiver Oliver Cool of Terrebonne, Quebec. Desjardins had 259 yards and one passing touchdown, and two rushes for 14 rushing yards. Cool had 10 catches for 144 receiving yards and one touchdown. Desjardins’s lone touchdown pass was to Cool for 41 yards, one minute and 20 seconds into the second half.
In the Loney Bowl, Bishop’s University Gaiters won a dramatic game as they beat Saint Mary’s University Huskies 25-22 in triple overtime. The Gaiters were led by running back David Chaloux of Saint-Charles-Boromee, Quebec, who had 20 rushing carries for 160 rushing yards and one touchdown, and two catches for 16 receiving yards. The game-winning 25-yard field goal was made by Gaiters kicker Xavier Gervais of Ottawa. Ontario.
In the Yates Cup, the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks beat the University of Western Ontario Mustangs 51-31. Golden Hawks quarterback Taylor Elgersma of London, Ontario completed 18 of 30 passes for 306 passing yards and four touchdowns, along with two rushes for 23 rushing yards. Golden Hawks running back Tanner Nelmes of Guelph, Ontario had 23 rushes for 170 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, along with one catch for 12 yards. Golden Hawks wide receiver Ryan Hughes of Mississauga, Ontario had seven catches for 113 receiving yards and one touchdown catch.
In the Hardy Cup, the Rams beat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 19-14. The Rams’s winning touchdown was a 45-yard interception return from defensive back Carson Sombach of Regina, Saskatchewan.
