Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Montreal, Quebec hit three home runs in a game for the second time in his career on Wednesday. The 2021 All-Star achieved the mark in a 6-4 Blue Jays win over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Guerrero Jr. hit his first home run in the top of the first inning with a 416-foot solo shot to deep centerfield, which put the Blue Jays up 1-0. Guerrero Jr. then put the Blue Jays up 3-0 with a 427-foot two-run shot to left centerfield in the third inning, which also scored shortstop Bo Bichette. Then, Guerrero Jr.’s third home run came in the eighth inning, which put the Blue Jays up 5-3. This was another solo shot that went 443 feet.

The first two home runs by Guerrero Jr. came off of Yankees ace Gerrit Cole. You could make the argument that Cole is one of the best pitchers of all-time never to have won the Cy Young Award. The third home run came off of Yankees’ reliever Jonathan Loaisiga.

Guerrero Jr. now leads Major League Baseball this season with four home runs. He is also batting .391, with six runs scored, nine hits, one double, eight runs batted in, one walk, 22 total bases, an on base percentage of .417, and a slugging percentage of .957. The first time Guerrero Jr. had three home runs in a game came on April 27, 2021 in a 9-5 Blue Jays win over the Washington Nationals.

The Blue Jays meanwhile improved to a record of four wins and two losses. They are in first place in the American League East.
