
The Toronto Marlies won the 2026 Calder Cup on Friday. In game five of the Calder Cup from the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, the Marlies defeated the Chicago Wolves 4-3. With the win, the Marlies won the best out of seven series four games to one.
This is the second time the Marlies have won the American Hockey League championship. They previously won in 2018. Eight years ago, the Marlies defeated the Texas Stars in seven games.
On Friday night, the Marlies were led in scoring by Easton Cowan of Mount Brydges, Ontario. Cowan had three assists for three points. In 22 Calder Cup playoff games, Cowan had eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points. In Friday’s championship clinching game, one other Canadian on the Marlies had a multi-point game. William Villeneuve of Sherbrooke, Quebec had two assists for two points. The four Marlies goal scorers were Landon Sim of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Jacob Quillan of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Vinni Lettieri.
The Marlies best period in the game was the second period. Heading into the middle frame, the Marlies trailed the Wolves by a score of 2-1. They then scored three unanswered goals to take a two goal lead, and a lead the Marlies would not relinquish.
