Team Canada wins three bronze medals on the second day of 2022 Paralympics

Team Canada came away with three bronze medals on the second day of the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing. Alana Ramsay of Calgary, Alberta placed third in the super giant slalom in the women’s alpine skiing standing division. Alexis Guimond of Gatineau, Quebec placed third in the super giant slalom in the men’s alpine skiing standing division. Collin Cameron of Barrie, Ontario placed third in the men’s long distance sitting cross country skiing.

Ramsay, who suffers from cerebral palsy, had a time of 1:16.84. She reached the podium by nine one-hundredths of a second over Ebba Aarsjoe of Sweden, who had a time of 1:16.93. Mengqiu Zhang became the first ever Chinese skier to win Paralympic gold with a time of 1:13.54. Marie Bochet of France won the silver medal with a time of 1:14.97.

Guimond, who also has cerebral palsy, had a time of 1:10.02. He reached the podium by 0.34 seconds over Arthur Bauchet of France, who had a fourth place time of 1:10.36. Jingyi Liang of China won the gold medal with a time of 1:09.11. Markus Salcher of Austria won the silver medal with a time of 1:09.35. What was impressive about Guimond’s bronze is the fact there were 39 athletes in the field.

In men’s long distance sitting cross country skiing, Cameron, who suffers from arthrogryposis (condition that causes shortening of the limbs), had a time of 47 minutes, 36.6 seconds. He reached the podium by 7.5 seconds over Tian Du of China, who had a time of 47 minutes, 44.1 seconds. Zheng Peng of China won the gold medal with a time of 43 minutes, 9.2 seconds. Zhongwu Mao of China won the silver medal with a time of 43 minutes, 23.8 seconds.

In wheelchair curling, Canada improved to a record of three wins and zero losses. They defeated Latvia 10-3.

Canada now has six medals at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing. They have one gold medal, one silver medal, and four bronze medals.
