
Philadelphia Flyers centre Scott Laughton of Oakville, Ontario became the first player during the 2024-25 National Hockey League regular season on Thursday to score four goals in a game. He accomplished the feat in a 4-1 Flyers win over the Detroit Red Wings. Laughton scored all four of the Flyers goals in the contest.
Laughton opened the scoring at 13:22 of the second period with an unassisted marker. He then put the Flyers up 2-0 with a shorthanded game-winning goal at 1:31 of the final frame. This was an all-Canadian goal as Travis Konecny of London, Ontario and defenseman Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn, Manitoba had the assists. Then Laughton’s final two goals went into an empty net. Laughton put the Flyers up 3-1 from Konecny and Noah Cates with with one minute and seven seconds left in the third period, and closed the scoring with 13 seconds left in the game from Garnet Hathaway.
Laughton’s first hat trick came on February 7, 2021. It came in a 7-4 Flyers win over the Washington Capitals.
In 2024-25, Laughton has seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 30 games. He is a -11 with eight penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, one game-winning goal, 55 shots on goal, 81 faceoff wins, 17 blocked shots, 72 hits, seven takeaways, and 24 giveaways.
The Flyers are currently in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. With a record of 14 wins, 12 regulation losses and four losses in extra time, the Flyers have 32 points and lead the New York Rangers and New York Islanders by one point each for a playoff spot.
