Roger Sloan leads after first round of Wyndham Championship

Roger Sloan of Calgary, Alberta is tied for the lead after the first round of the 2020 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. In the first round, Sloan shot a first-round score of 62, and is at -8 alongside a pair of Americans– Harold Varner III of Akron, Ohio, and Tom Hoge of Statesville, North Carolina.

Sloan had nine birdies and one bogey. He birdied the first, second, fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth, 10th, 16th, and 17th holes, and bogeyed the par four ninth hole. Sloan’s most impressive shot a 36-foot birdie putt on the par-four 10th.

Harris English of Valdosta, Georgia is alone in fourth place and two strokes back of the leaders at -6. English tested positive for coronavirus in June prior to the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.

Meanwhile, there is currently an eight-way tie for fifth place at -5. Those who are three back of the lead and in definite striking distance of Sloan are Wesley Bryan of Columbia, South Carolina, Brian Harman of Savannah, Georgia, Si Woo Kim of Seoul, South Korea, 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed of San Antonio, Texas, Chesson Hadley of Raleigh, North Carolina, Talor Gooch of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Hank Lebioda of Orlando, Florida, and Ryan Brehm of Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Sloan is currently ranked 310th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He has three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour. They were a second at the 2019 Puerto Rico Open, a seventh at the 2019 Barracuda Championship, and a 10th at the 2019 John Deere Classic.
