Patrice Bergeron records his eighth career NHL hat trick

Boston Bruins captain and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Patrice Bergeron of Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec recorded his eighth career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday, He accomplished the feat in a 5-0 Bruins win over the Buffalo Sabres.

Bergeron scored the only two goals of the first period. He opened the scoring with a game-winning unassisted marker at 6:16, and then put the Bruins up 2-0 on a goal from Jake DeBrusk of Edmonton, Alberta, and Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bergeron’s hat trick then came at 17:47 of the third period from Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm to put the Bruins up 5-0.

Bergeron won his first Olympic gold medal with Team Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. He then won four years later at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.  Bergeron’s seven other hat tricks came in a 6-0 Bruins win over the Ottawa Senators on January 11, 2011, in a 7-1 Bruins win over the Carolina Hurricanes on January 6, 2018, in a 5-2 Bruins win over the New York Islanders on January 18, 2018, in a 6-3 Bruins win over the Ottawa Senators on October 8, 2018, in a 7-4 Bruins win over the New York Rangers on October 27, 2019, in a 4-2 Bruins win over the Philadelphia Flyers on April 6, 2021, and in a 5-1 Bruins win over the Detroit Red Wings on November 4, 2021.

On the season, Bergeron now has 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points. He is a +26 with 32 penalty minutes, 23 power-play points, three shorthanded points, four game-winning goals, 293 shots on goal, 991 faceoff wins, 45 blocked shots, 78 hits, 37 takeaways, and 21 giveaways.

The Bruins are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They have 107 points and will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.
