
The 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 14, and three Canadians will participate. They are Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman, Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez of Montreal, Quebec, and Cleveland Guardians closer Cade Smith of Abbotsford, British Columbia.
Freeman is an All-Star for the 10th time. He was honoured while with the Atlanta Braves in 2012, 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2021, and the Dodgers for five straight seasons from 2022 to 2026. This is the first All-Star selection for Lopez and Smith.
In 2026, Freeman is batting .293 with 15 home runs and 49 runs batted in. During 88 games, 331 at bats and 384 plate appearances, he scored 51 runs and had 97 hits, 22 doubles, one triple, three stolen bases, 47 walks, 166 total bases, three sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .383 and a slugging percentage of .502. Freeman hit two home runs in a 5-4 Dodgers win over the San Diego Padres on May 19.
Lopez is having an amazing season. He leads the Major Leagues in batting average (.346), hits (123), and doubles (25). In 89 games, 356 at bats and 383 plate appearances, Lopez has scored 59 runs and had five triples, nine home runs, 43 runs batted in, 17 stolen bases, 17 walks, 185 total bases, and six sacrifice flies, to go along with an on base percentage of .376 and a slugging percentage of .520.
Smith has been fantastic on the mound, as he leads the Major Leagues with 26 saves. He has a record of two wins and one loss with an earned run average of 2.90 in 40 1/3 innings pitched. During 38 games, Smith has given up 36 hits, 13 earned runs, three home runs and 10 walks, to go along with 57 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.14. Smith got the win in a 6-5 Guardians win over the Seattle Mariners on March 28 in a game that went into 10 innings. He also beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1 on April 7.
