New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford set the record on Tuesday for the most points in one end at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. According to Ryan Horne of TSN, Crawford picked up seven points in the seventh end en route to a 13-7 win over Manitoba from the Canadian national women’s curling championship in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

The fact that Crawford, of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, beat Manitoba was significant and definitely considered an upset. It was Manitoba’s first loss of the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. However Einarson’s Gimli-based team bounced back nicely with a 10-6 win over Saskatchewan’s Robyn Silvernagle.

There are currently three teams at this time at 5-1. They are Manitoba, Team Wildcard and Team Ontario. Just like Manitoba, Ontario was beaten by a Maritime province. The Ontario squad skipped by Rachel Homan of Ottawa, was upset by Prince Edward Island’s Suzanne Birt by a score of 9-8 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Team Wildcard, which is skipped by Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has now won five straight games after losing their first game of the tournament by a score of 9-6 to Ontario. Jones won the gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

There has been one other significant upset at the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts so far. That also took place on Tuesday as Lori Eddy of Nunavut upset Krista McCarville of Northern Ontario 6-5. Eddy stole a single point in the ninth and 10th ends to win.
