Marc Andre Fleury records 60th career NHL shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel, Quebec recorded his 60th career National Hockey League shutout on Saturday. Fleury made 19 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights beat the New York Islanders 1-0 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fleury made six saves in the first period, four saves in the second period and nine saves in the third period. Jordan Eberle of Regina, Saskatchewan and Anders Lee of Edina, Minnesota led the Islanders with four shots on goal each.

The Golden Knights scored their only goal of the game with 35 seconds left in the second period. That is when Reilly Smith of Mimico, Ontario scored from Jonathan Marchessault of Cap-Rouge, Quebec and Nate Schmidt.

In 42 games this season for Vegas, Fleury has a record of 22 wins, 14 regulation losses and five losses in extra time. He has four shutouts, a goals against average of 2.80 and a save percentage of .905. Fleury’s other three shutouts this season came in a 3-0 Golden Knights win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 19, in a 6-0 Golden Knights win over the Calgary Flames on November 17 and in a 3-0 Golden Knights win over the Nashville Predators on February 1. Fleury won his Olympic gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

The Golden Knights are currently tied for second place in the Pacific Division with the Edmonton Oilers. The Golden Knights have a record of 30 wins, 22 regulation losses and eight losses in extra time for 68 points. Vegas leads the Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets by five points for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
