The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired center Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario from the St. Louis Blues in a blockbuster trade on Friday. In addition to O’Reilly, the Maple Leafs acquired center Noel Acciari, and prospect Josh Pillar from the Blues, for the Maple Leafs’s first and third round pick in 2023, second round pick in 2024, and centers Mikhail Abramov and Adam Gaudette. The Maple Leafs also traded a fourth round pick to the Minnesota Wild in the 2025 National Hockey League Draft as Pillar was an initially a prospect in the Wild organization before being moved temporarily to the Blues.
The Maple Leafs are the fourth team O’Reilly has played for. He has previously played for the Colorado Avalanche, Buffalo Sabres and Blues. In 40 games this season for the Blues, O’Reilly has 12 goals and seven assists for 19 points. He was a -24 with 10 penalty minutes, two power-play points, one shorthanded point, three game-winning goals, 80 shots on goal, 385 faceoff wins, 21 blocked shots, 13 hits, 36 takeaways, and eight giveaways.
O’Reilly comes to Toronto with a spectacular hockey resume. It includes being a three-time NHL All-Star (2016 with the Sabres, 2019 and 2020 with the Blues), winner of the 2014 Lady Byng Trophy with the Avalanche, and winner of the Stanley Cup, Selke Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy with the Blues in 2019.
