Jordan Romano named American League Reliever of the Month

Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano was named the American League reliever of the month on Monday according to Rogers Sportsnet. Romano of Markham, Ontario, had a record of one win, one loss, 10 saves and an earned run average of 1.59.

Romano pitched 11 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits, two earned runs, and two walks, to go along with 13 strikeouts, and an opposing batting average of .195. Of the 155 pitches Romano threw in April, 105 were for strikes. Meanwhile, Romano’s WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) was 0.88.

Then to begin the month of May on Sunday, Romano collected his 11th save of the season in a 3-2 Blue Jays win over the Houston Astros. Toronto is currently in second place in the American League East with a record of 15 wins and nine losses. They are two and a half games back of the division leading New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers are red hot at the moment, as they have won 10 straight games, the best record in all of Major League Baseball at 17 wins and six losses for a winning percentage of .739.

The Yankees and Blue Jays are currently playing a three game series in Toronto. The Yankees won the opener 3-2 on Monday night.
