Olympic bronze medalist Jessica Klimkait of Whitby, Ontario won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Judo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Saturday in the women’s 57 kilogram division. Klimkait, who won the bronze medal for Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, won her second career medal at the World Judo Championships following a gold medal at the 2021 World Judo Championships in Budapest.

Klimkait beat Timna Nelson-Levy of Israel in one of two bronze medal matches. Lkhagvatogooglin Enkhriilen of Mongolia won the other bronze medal match as she defeated Mi-mi Huh of South Korea. Rafaela Silva of Brazil won the gold medal final as she beat Haruka Funakubo of Japan, who had to settle for silver.

During the women’s 57 kilogram tournament, Klimkait was placed in Pool A. She got a first round bye before beating Jasmine Martin of South Africa in the second round and Chen-ling Lien of Taiwan in the round of 16. Klimkait was then beaten by Huh in the quarterfinals. The Huh win over Klimkait was an upset as the South Korean did not have a first round bye, unlike Klimkait. After the quarterfinals, Klimkait was sent to the Repechage round, where she beat Eteri Liparteliani of Georgia before her bronze medal match against Nelson-Levy.
