Canadian Olympic bronze medalist James Crawford of Toronto, Ontario won a World Cup alpine skiing silver medal in Bormio, Italy on Wednesday according to the Canadian Press. The second place finish is significant because the world’s most high performance skiers were on Italy’s Stelvio course, the same course used for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
Crawford had a second place time of 1:55.08. Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria won the gold medal with a time of 1:54.68. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway won the bronze medal with a time of 1:55.36. Crawford reached the podium by 1.06 seconds over Marco Odermatt of Switzerland, who had a fourth place time of 1:56.14.
This was Crawford’s third World Cup alpine skiing medal. He previously won a silver medal in a men’s super giant slalom in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 6, 2022, and a bronze medal in a men’s downhill in Beaver Creek, Colorado on December 3, 2022.
In the World Cup men’s downhill alpine skiing standings, Crawford is in fourth place with 221 points. Kilde leads with 405 points.
Crawford won the bronze medal in the men’s alpine combined at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. He was the first ever Canadian to win an Olympic medal in the men’s alpine combined discipline.
