The Calgary Flames honoured four Canadian Olympic medalists from the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing prior to their 7-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. They were Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emerance Maschmeyer of Bruderheim, Alberta (women’s hockey), Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Justin Kripps of Summerland, British Columbia (four-man bobsled), Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Cameron Stones of Oshawa, Ontario (four-man bobsled), and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Rachael Karker of Erin, Ontario (women’s halfpipe skiing).

This was actually the second Olympic medal for Kripps. He previously won gold in the two-man at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

The Flames meanwhile are red hot. They have won 11 of their last 12 games, and are in first place in the Pacific Division with 68 points. The Flames also have the second best record in the Western Conference. The only team with more points is the Colorado Avalanche with 82 points.

One major reason why the Flames are enjoying so much success has been because of their strong defensive play. Calgary has given up only 124 goals this season, which is the second fewest in the entire NHL. Only the Carolina Hurricanes, which have allowed 121 goals, have given up fewer goals than the Flames. Calgary’s next game will also be against the Wild on Tuesday in Minnesota.
