Eric Peters reaches round of 16 in Olympic men’s archery tournament

Eric Peters of Ottawa, Ontario has reached the round of 16 Olympic men’s archery tournament. On Tuesday, he upset two opponents if you take a look at the world rankings, in his first two matches in the Olympic tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. 

Peters, who is ranked 36th in the world, despite the fact he won the silver medal at the 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin, defeated the 29th seed, Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan 6-4 in the first round, and then the fourth seed, Dhiraj Bommadevara of India, 6-5 in the second round. Peters next faces the 20th seed, Mauro Nespoli of Italy in the round of 16 on Sunday at 1:56 AM.

In archery, if you win a set, you earn two points. One point is awarded to each archer if there is a tie. In Peters’s match against Abdullin, Peters won the first set 29-27 and earned two points. The second and third sets were tied 28-28 and 29-29 respectively. Abdullin won the fourth set 29-28, before Peters won the fifth set 28-26.

In Peters’s win over Bommadevara, Peters lost the first set 28-27, won the second set 29-28, lost the third set 29-27, tied the fourth set 30-30, and won the fifth set, 30-29. A tiebreaker was used with Peters winning a dramatic single arrow shootout. Bommadevara had won the last two Archery World Cup events in Antalya, Turkey. Three more round of 16 matches have been determined. Thomas Chirault of France will face Mete Gazoz of Turkey, Wooseok Lee of South Korea will face Yan Wang of China, and Woojin Kim of South Korea will face Marcus D’Almeida of Brazil.
