Elks trade McLeod Bethel-Thompson to Alouettes for Cody Fajardo

There was an intriguing Canadian Football League trade on Tuesday. The Edmonton Elks have traded quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to the Montreal Alouettes for Cody Fajardo according to 3Down Nation on Tuesday. The trade comes three weeks after the Alouettes signed quarterback Davis Alexander to a three year contract and named him their starting quarterback for the 2025 CFL season.

Bethel-Thompson is joining his third CFL franchise. He was with the Toronto Argonauts for five years from 2017 to 2019, and again from 2021 to 2022. Then Bethel-Thompson was with the Elks in 2024.

Fajardo is joining his fifth CFL franchise. He was with the Argonauts for three seasons from 2015 to 2017, the British Columbia Lions in 2018, the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2019, 2021, and 2022, and the Alouettes in 2023 and 2024. Fajardo was the backup quarterback to Ricky Ray in Toronto in 2017, and was the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player in Montreal in 2023. In 2019, Fajardo led the CFL in passing yards with 4302 while with Saskatchewan.

This past season in Montreal, Fajardo completed 268 passes in 364 attempts for 3105 passing yards, with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also had 51 rushes for 277 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile in Edmonton, McLeod-Thompson completed 318 passes in 468 attempts for 3748 passing yards, with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also had 11 rushes for 83 rushing yards.
