Elizabeth Hosking of Longueuil, Quebec and Megan Farrell of Bracebridge, Ontario each won World Cup snowboarding medals this past weekend. Hosking won the silver medal in the World Cup women’s halfpipe snowboarding event on Friday in Copper Mountain, Colorado, and Farrell won the bronze medal in the World Cup women’s parallel giant slalom on Saturday in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy. For Hosking, it was her first World Cup medal, and for Farrell, it was her second World Cup medal.
In the World Cup women’s halfpipe snowboarding on Friday, Hosking posted a score of 88.75 points. Queralt Castellet of Spain won the gold medal with a score of 89.75 points. Mitsuki Ono of Japan won the bronze medal with a score of 85 points. Hosking earned a medal by 12 points over Ruki Tomita of Japan, who finished in fourth place with 76.75 points.
In the World Cup women’s parallel giant slalom on Saturday, Gloria Kotnik of Slovenia won the gold medal. Ramona Theresia Hofmeister of Germany won the silver medal. Farrell beat Julie Zogg of Switzerland in the first round, and Patrizia Kummer of Switzerland in the quarterfinals, before losing to Kotnik in the semifinals. In the small final, Farrell reached the podium by beating Lucia Dalmasso of Italy. Farrell’s first World Cup medal was a silver medal in a World Cup women’s parallel slalom event in Berchtesgaden, Germany on March 19, 2022.
In the World Cup women’s parallel giant slalom standings, Farrell is in seventh place with 72 points. Kotnik leads with 150 points. The World Cup medals for Hosking and Farrell will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. The bronze medal for Farrell is extra special because she won her medal on the Olympic hill.
