The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Nashville Predators 3-2 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Thursday, and it was a memorable night for two Oilers players–captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario, and defenseman Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario. McDavid became the 99th player in National Hockey League history and fourth youngest player overall to record 1000 points. Meanwhile, Nurse set the Oilers franchise record for most overtime goals in a career by a defenseman with six.

McDavid notched his 1000th point with a goal at 2:44 of the second period from Nurse and Leon Draisaitl to tie the game at one. He then set up Nurse for the overtime winner at 2:33 of the extra period for his 1001st career point. McDavid now has 341 goals and 660 assists in 659 NHL games.

McDavid’s age is 27 years and 306 days old. The only three players to record 1000 points and were younger than McDavid were former Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky of Brantford, Ontario (23 years and 328 days), former Pittsburgh Penguins center Mario Lemieux of Montreal, Quebec (26 years and 171 days), and former Detroit Red Wings center Steve Yzerman of Cranbrook, British Columbia (27 years and 291 days) according to Good Morning America. With the win, the Oilers improved to a record of nine wins, seven regulation losses and one extra time loss for 19 points. They moved into a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
