Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard wins silver at World Judo Championship

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard of Montreal, Quebec has won the silver medal at the 2022 World Judo Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She placed second in the women’s 63 kilogram half middleweight division.

Beauchemin-Pinard reached the gold medal final before losing to gold medalist Megumi Horikawa of Japan. Manon Deketer of France and Barbara Timo of Portugal each won the bronze medal.

In the women’s 63 kilogram division, Beauchemin-Pinard was placed in Pool C. She got a first round bye before beating Audrey Etoua of Cameroon, Iva Oberan of Croatia, and Renata Zachova of the Czech Republic. In the semifinals, Beauchemin-Pinard beat Deketer.

This was Beauchemin-Pinard’s first ever medal at the World Judo Championships. She won the bronze medal for Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

Team Canada now has two medals at the 2022 World Judo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The first came on Saturday when Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Jessica Klimkait of Whitby, Ontario, won the bronze medal in the women’s 57 kilogram lightweight division. Like Beauchemin-Pinard, Klimkait won the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

There are two more Canadians participating in the 2022 World Judo Championships. Kyle Reyes of Brampton, Ontario is competing in the men’s 100 kilogram half-heavyweight division on Tuesday. Marc Deschenes of Laval, Quebec is competing in the men’s 100+ kilogram heavyweight division on Wednesday.
