
The 2026 WNBA Draft took place on Monday in New York City. Among the players chosen were two Canadians–guard Cassandre Prosper of Montreal, Quebec and forward Latasha Lattimore of Toronto, Ontario. Prosper and Latttimore were both chosen in the second round. Prosper was taken 19th overall by the Washington Mystics out of the University of Notre Dame and Lattimore was taken 21st overall by the Chicago Sky out of the University of Mississippi.
Prosper had a terrific high school career at Cairine Wilson Secondary School/Capital Courts Academy in Ottawa, Ontario. In 2022, Prosper was named the Biosteel Player of the Year, presented to the best senior women’s high school basketball player in Canada. This past season with the Fighting Irish, Prosper averaged 13.6 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game, 1.6 steals per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. She had a field goal percentage of .492, three point percentage of .305, and free throw percentage of .738.
By being drafted by the Mystics, Prosper made Canadian sports history. Cassandre and her brother Olivier-Maxence became the first Canadian brother/sister siblings to be drafted in the NBA/WNBA according to Damichael Cole of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Olivier-Maxence was chosen in the first round, 24th overall, in the 2023 NBA Draft, by the Sacramento Kings.
Lattimore averaged 10.9 rebounds per game, 6.2 rebounds per game, 2.1 blocks per game, and 1.1 assists per game with the Rebels. She had a field goal percentage of .482, three point percentage of .319 and free throw percentage of .711. In five years playing NCAA women’s basketball, Lattimore attended four different universities. She also played for Texas (2021-22), Miami (2022 to 2024), and Virginia (2024 to 2025).
