Canada wins first three games of the World Men’s Hockey Championship

Team Canada has won its first three games of the 2022 World Men’s Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland. The Canadian wins have come over Italy, Germany, and Slovakia. On Friday, Canada defeated Germany 5-3. On Sunday, Canada defeated Italy 6-1. On Monday, Canada defeated Slovakia 5-1.

In Canada’s win over Germany, Team Canada assistant captain and Winnipeg Jets centre Pierre-Luc Dubois of Sainte-Agathes-des-Monts, Quebec scored two goals and was the only Canadian player with a multi-point game. The other Canadian goal scorers were Columbus Blue Jackets centres Kent Johnson of Port Moody, British Columbia and Cole Sillinger of Regina, Saskatchewan, along with San Jose Sharks centre Noah Gregor of Beaumont, Alberta.

In Canada’s win over Italy, three Canadians had a multi-point game. Montreal Canadiens right winger Josh Anderson of Burlington, Ontario, and Arizona Coyotes defenseman Dysin Mayo of Victoria, British Columbia had one goal and one assist each for two points. Meanwhile, New Jersey Devils centre Dawson Mercer of Carbonear, Newfoundland had two assists. The other four Canadian goal scorers were Vegas Golden Knights centre Nicolas Roy of Amos, Quebec, Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn, Manitoba, Johnson and Gregor.

In Canada’s win over Slovakia, Dubois scored twice, just like he did against Germany. Meanwhile, Seattle Kraken centre Morgan Geekie of Strathclair, Manitoba, and Jets centre Adam Lowry of Calgary, Alberta each had one goal and one assist for two points. Two other Canadian players had a multi-point game as Buffalo Sabres centre Dylan Cozens of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Anderson each had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorer was Sillinger. The next Canadian game is Thursday versus Kazakhstan.
