Team Canada made the quarterfinals of the women’s rugby sevens competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. On Monday, Canada defeated China 26-17 in their final Group A game. Canada finished the group with a record of two wins and one loss, which was good enough for second place.

In Canada’s win on Sunday to open the tournament, they defeated Fiji 17-14. Three Canadians had a try. They were Florence Symonds of Vancouver, British Columbia, Charity Williams of Toronto, Ontario, and Keyara Wardley of Calgary, Alberta. The day did not end too well for the Canadians as they were trounced 33-7 by New Zealand, the clear gold medal favourites.

Then on Monday, Canada improved to a record of two wins and one loss with a 26-17 win over China. Williams had two tries, while Symonds and Piper Logan of Calgary had one try each.

Canada will now play France in one of four quarterfinals. France won Group C with a perfect record of three wins and zero losses. The other three quarterfinals have New Zealand versus China, Great Britain versus the United States and Australia versus Ireland. Once before has Canada won a medal in women’s rugby sevens at the Olympic Games. They won bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
