Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2019 World Men’s Hockey Championship in Slovakia after a dramatic 3-2 win over Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Thursday. New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson of Melville, Saskatchewan scored the goal of a lifetime with four tenths of a second left in regulation to tie the game at two goals apiece before Vegas Golden Knights right winger Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba scored the game winning goal at 5:07 of overtime from Columbus Blue Jackets center Pierre-Luc Dubois of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec and Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore of Langley, British Columbia.

It was a strong game for Stone, who not only scored the game winning goal, but was involved in all three Canadian goals in the absence of Detroit Red Wings right winger Anthony Mantha, who was suspended for one game. Stone also scored Canada’s first goal from Dubois and Nashville Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro of Coquitlam, British Columbia.

With the win, Team Canada will now play the Czech Republic in the semifinals. The Czech Republic beat Germany 5-1 in another quarterfinal game on Thursday. The other quarterfinal games saw Russia beat the United States 4-3 and Finland defeating Sweden 5-4 in overtime. The semifinals will take place on Saturday, with the gold and bronze medal games on Sunday.
