Camryn Rogers wins NCAA Championship in women’s hammer throw

Camryn Rogers of Richmond, British Columbia won the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw on Thursday at the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship in Eugene, Oregon according to Yahoo! Sports. This was the third straight championship for Rogers, who finished in fifth place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

Rogers performance on Thursday was sensational. It was a throw of 77.67 metres, the ninth best throw in women’s hammer throw history.

Rogers’s throw was also a Canadian record and a NCAA record. Rogers, who attends the University of California, is currently a senior. Alyssa Wilson of Texas State won the silver medal with a throw of 74.78 metres, and Beatrice Llano of Arizona State won the bronze medal with a throw of 72.10 metres. Rogers reached the podium by 6.65 metres over Sara Killinen of Virginia Tech, who had a fourth place throw of 71.02 metres.

Rogers previously won the gold medal in the women’s hammer throw at the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas and the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Rogers’s throw in 2019 was 71.5 metres, and her throw in 2021 was 75.52 metres. Rogers’s previous best was 76.46 metres, which was set in the NCAA Preliminary Round in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 27.

When Rogers finished in fifth place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, she had a throw of 74.35 metres. Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland is the world record holder in the women’s hammer throw at 82.98 metres, which was set at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Tournament in Warsaw, Poland on August 28, 2016.
