Cameron Spalding wins World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding gold in Laax

Cameron Spalding of Havelock, Ontario won the gold medal in a men’s World Cup slopestyle snowboarding competition in Laax, Switzerland on Saturday. For Spalding, it was his second World Cup gold medal and fourth World Cup medal overall.

Spalding posted a score of 86.63 points. Redmond Gerard of the United States won the silver medal with a score of 86.22 points. Noah Vicktor of Germany won the bronze medal with a score of 83.72 points. Spalding reached the podium by 3.19 points over Liam Brearley of Orillia, Ontario, who had a fourth place score of 83.44 points.

Spalding leads the World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding standings with 200 points. Gerard is in second with 112 points.

This was Sapling’s second World Cup medal of the season. The other was a gold medal in Cardrona, New Zealand on September 2.

Spalding’s two other World Cup medals were both bronze medals. They were in Calgary on February 12, 2023, and in Laax, Switzerland on January 20, 2024.

There are three more World Cup men’s slopestyle snowboarding events this season. They are in Aspen, Colorado on February 2, in Calgary, Alberta on February 22, and in Absolut Park Flachauwinkl, Austria on March 14. The World Cup gold medal for Spalding will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo next year.
