Team Canada has defeated Cuba in the semifinals of the 2026 NORCECA Men’s Volleyball Tournament in Moncton, New Brunswick. On Tuesday in the semifinals, Canada defeated Cuba 26-24, 25-22, 25-17. The match took 80 minutes to complete.
Four Canadians reached double digits in points. Opposite Sharone Vernon-Evans of Scarborough, Ontario and outside hitter and captain Eric Loeppky of Winnipeg, Manitoba had 14 points each to lead the Canadian attack. Meanwhile, outside hitter Stephen Maar of Aurora, Ontario had 13 points and middle blocker Fynn McCarthy of Kelowna, British Columbia had 10 points. Vernon-Evans had 10 points off the attack, three points off blocks and one ace. Loeppky had 13 points off the attack and one ace, Maar had nine points off the attack, and three points off blocks and McCarthy had two points off the attack, two points off blocks, and six aces. There is no doubt that McCarthy has emerged as one of volleyball’s best servers.
Canada will now play the United States in the North American final on Wednesday. The Americans beat the Dominican Republic in the other semifinal, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19. That match only took 70 minutes to complete.
Even though Canada is playing the United States for the Men’s North American championship, you could make the argument that the biggest game of the day is between Puerto Rico and Mexico for fifth place. That is because the winner of that game will join Canada, the Dominican Republic and Cuba in the four-team Olympic qualifying tournament in Moncton on Friday and Saturday.
