Brendan Mackay wins World Cup gold in men’s halfpipe skiing in Calgary again

For the second time this week, Brendan Mackay of Calgary, Alberta won a World Cup gold medal in men’s halfpipe skiing at Calgary’s Canada Olympic Park. It was one of three halfpipe skiing medals for Canada as Noah Bowman of Calgary, Alberta won the bronze medal in the men’s event and Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ontario won the silver medal in the women’s event.

Mackay posted a score of 93.4 points. Alex Ferreira of the United States won the silver medal with 90.4 points, and Noah Bowman of Calgary, Alberta won the bronze medal with 88 points, as he reached the podium by 1.4 points over Dylan Ladd of the United States, who finished in fourth place with a score of 86.6 points.

In the World Cup standings, Mackay and Ferreira lead with 260 points each. Bowman is in third with 150 points. Mackay now has five World Cup medals, including two gold medals. Bowman has 11 World Cup medals.

Karker posted a score of 89.4 points. Ailing Eileen Gu of China won the gold medal with 92.8 points. Hanna Faulhaber of the United States won the bronze medal with 88.6 points. Karker reached the podium by 5.8 points over Canadian Olympic gold medalist Cassie Sharp, who had 83.6 points.

In the World Cup standings, Karker is in second place with 220 points. Gu leads with 300 points. The podium finishes for Karker, Mackay and Bowman will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
