Brampton, Ontario will host the 2023 Women’s World Hockey Championship according to Hockey Canada on Thursday. The tournament will take place from April 5-16.

Team Canada has won the last two gold medal games of the Women’s World Hockey Championship. They won in 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on a game-winning goal by three-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec in a 3-2 Canada overtime win over the United States. Then in 2022, Canada beat the United States 2-1 in the gold medal game in Herning, Denmark. Poulin won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

This will be the 10th time that Canada will have hosted the Women’s World Hockey Championship and fifth time in Ontario. Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, was the host in 1990 and again in 2013. Kitchener hosted in 1997, and Mississauga hosted in 2000.

This will be the second significant international hockey tournament Canada will host over the next five months. Starting Boxing Day, Canada will be hosting the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championships in the Maritimes. All of Canada’s games will be played at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. While Group B games will be in Moncton, New Brunswick. Russia is still not permitted to participate because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
