Megan Oldham of Newmarket, Ontario and Olivia Asselin of Quebec City, Quebec each earned medals on Friday in a Women’s Big Air Skiing World Cup in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Oldham won the gold medal and Asselin won the bronze medal.
Oldham posted a score of 176 points. Asselin’s third best score was 169 points. Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland won the silver medal with 172 points. Oldham earned a podium spot by 12 points and Asselin earned a medal by five points over Sarah Hoefflin of Switzerland, who had 164 points in fourth spot.
This was Oldham’s first World Cup women’s big air skiing medal. Her previous five World Cup medals came in slopestyle skiing. Oldham won gold in Silvaplana, Switzerland on March 30, 2019, and Bakuriani, Georgia on March 5, 2022. She also won silver in Seiser Alm, Italy on January 27, 2019, bronze in Mammoth Mountain, California, United States on March 10, 2019, and in Calgary, Alberta on February 15, 2020. Meanwhile, this was Asselin’s first World Cup medal.
In the Women’s Big Air Skiing World Cup standings, Oldham is in third place with 132 points and Asselin is in fifth place with 110 points. Tess Ledux of France and Gremaud are tied for the lead with 140 points. The medals for Oldham and Asselin will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina D’Ampezzo.
