Brad Jacobs wins 2020 Meridian Canadian Open

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario won the 2020 Meridian Canadian Open in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on Sunday. For Jacobs and his curling team of third Marc Kennedy of St. Albert, Alberta, second E.J. Harnden of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario and lead Ryan Harnden of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario, they have won the last three grand slam titles on the 2019-20 World Curling Tour as they also won the Kioti Tractor Tour Challenge Tier 1 event in Pictou County, Nova Scotia on November 10 and the Boost National in Conception Bay South, Newfoundland on December 15.

At the Meridian Canadian Open, Jacobs had a perfect record of six wins and zero losses. In the A event, he beat Glenn Howard of Midland, Ontario 7-5, Yannick Schwaller of Switzerland 7-3 and Korey Dropkin of the United States 5-3. Then in the playoff bracket, Jacobs beat Howard again 8-4 in the quarterfinals. He then beat Mike McEwen of Brandon, Manitoba 6-3 in the semifinals and John Epping of Peterborough, Ontario 6-5 in the final.

All members of the Jacobs team are Olympic gold medalists. Jacobs and the Harden brothers won the Olympic gold medal at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Kennedy won his Olympic gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
